Eyes Wide Open: Navigating the Healing Journey, the first book in the Where There’s Smoke Series on Covert Abuse. There is power in sharing your story, and this is the story of my first incest awareness. It happened in the mid ’80’s, during a time when there was no internet, no resources readily available to check out and a great deal of pressure to be silent. There were few voices “telling”. Hard enough to tell yourself the truth never mind anyone else.

Things have changed since then — still a long way to go, but enough so that deafening silence isn’t the only sound a survivor has the option to hear. One of the effects of those changes is me — I am changed and I want to be a part of the change, passionately moved to add my voice to the rising chorus of storytellers, witnesses and survivors speaking their truth.
