I used to think the worst thing that happened to me, as a child, was the incest. But It wasn’t. The worst thing my abuser did to me was telling me he loved me. Gaslighting — redefining and recreating reality — is characteristic of covert abuse, among other toxic dynamics that first undermine and then slowly destroy you. In this series, I am committed to unraveling, understanding and articulating these dynamics for my empowerment and yours.
