Not Your Typical Disclaimer ktd-001

[This episode audio file and post have been updated as of April 14, 2019]

This first episode of Keeping the Dream Podcast does cover some typical disclaimer stuff, but it also takes literally exactly what to disclaim means, and goes about it the Keeping the Dream way. This is an invitation to walk the healing journey with friends and to engage in some tea and conversation with me.

I’m including the entire transcript for this episode in this post as I will be using it as bit more creative disclaimer in addition to the regular one on my website.

Episode 1: Not-So-Typical-Disclaimer

[0:11] Welcome
Hi, I’m Demian Yumei of KeepingtheDream.com and I welcome you to the Keeping the Dream Podcast.

[0:19]Regular Disclaimer
To start, I need to very quickly go over a few regular disclaimer stuff, before moving to the not-so-typical.

[0:27] Legal
Namely, I’m not a lawyer or therapist so nothing in this podcast should be construed as giving legal or psychological advice. Also, you’re responsible for your path, the decisions you make and their results.

[0:43] Triggers
Concerning triggers. As this podcast is about the healing journey and I share my experiences as a survivor of incest, covert abuse and other issues, such as drug addiction and mental illness, please be mindful there may be some triggers here for you. Practice self-care, and as a matter of good practice, build your support network.

[1:07] Privacy
And last, to protect the privacy of others, in discussing personal relationships, I’ve changed names and identifying details, as much as possible. If necessary, some references to people in my writings and podcast may be composites of individuals, but the general story and the meanings are true.

[1:30] Not-So-Typical Disclaimed
Now to the not-so-typical disclaimer. According to Merriam-Webster, my favorite on-line dictionary, disclaimer means a denial, disavowal, and disowning.

So, in the true meaning of the word, “disclaimer”:

1. We deny or reject the past power to define who we are today. We acknowledge its impact, and we claim the right that is ours to author our lives.

2. We disavow or repudiate the lie that we were responsible for any abuse that happened to us as children, or that, as adults, we’re responsible for the actions of others, namely those who would abuse us. We give guilt back to whom it belongs. We don’t want it any more.

3. We disown or invalidate the entitlement of others to tell us what we think, feel, see, hear, taste, smell, remember, did or didn’t do, or to in any way define our reality and experiences for us. There’s only one person who can live me and that’s me.

Please be warned that if you contemplate these ideas, sit with them while, try them on for size and act on them, you may notice greater health, sense of peace, purpose and well-being. Not to mention increasing periods of joy and even love.

[3:09] A Series of Steps
The episodes of this podcast are a series of steps along a path you can take on your healing journey. You don’t have to cover all the steps. You don’t have to stay on this path, but if you want, it’s there for you.

[3:25] Among friends
This isn’t a documentary. It’s a conversation. As you read or listen to these words, I invite you to put these ideas into practice in your own life, discuss them among friends or with me. You can visit me at facebook.com/demianyumei or my patreon site, patreon.com/keepingthedream.

My Patreon page is for those would who like to support me in my work — and if I ever create an email list and build it, then it might actually work for me — but there are plenty of public posts, so if you find yourself there, don’t be shy. Introduce yourself.

Imagine yourself standing in a kitchen among friends who are sitting around the kitchen table, telling their stories, drinking tea and eating chocolate — lots of chocolate.

You’re among friends.

Pull up a chair. We’ll pass the chocolates and I’ll put the kettle on.

[4:34] Closing
Next episode I want to talk about Keeping the Dream, what it means to me and why I’m specifically focusing on covert abuse in this podcast. I hope you’ll join me. And if you know anyone who might need to hear these words, please share this podcast with them. You may just be the one to make a difference for them today.

Till next time, stay true to your journey, to the light in your heart, to who you are and who you are becoming, always.

This is Demian Yumei,
