Love Does Not Require

Love does not require you to be perfect to shine through you. Our task is to decide how we will express that love, in what ways love will enter into this world through the portal of our lives. Not whether we’re deserving of this task or not.

The idea of being a channel for love can seem ridiculous, even blasphemous. We judge, so harshly ourselves and others, who is deserving and who isn’t.

Those filled with self-doubt, who feel inadequate, who may have had the belief of inferiority drummed into their heads, may struggle with the idea of being a channel for anything positive, never mind love. Even people who come from loving homes may find it arrogant or audacious to see themselves as channels of love. And those who have inflicted injury on others? Preposterous.

But being human means being an avenue of love. I firmly believe this. This is our purpose, our reason for being.

We can deny our destiny. Many of us do. Or we can take a deep breath… some of us a very deep breath, and say yes.

Unless we allow ourselves to do this, we can never be fully at peace. We see this in the growing addiction to money, power and prestige. People desperate for more, not caring about the suffering their greed inflicts on others, not seeing the humanity of other human beings for the lack of being able to see it within themselves.

How much acquiring will ever be enough?

When you miss the underlying purpose of your life, the answer is “Nothing will ever be enough”.

Say Yes to love in this moment, now. Putting it off, our procrastination and denial assures it will never come.

All that is required of you is that you be willing. Not wholly willing, perfectly willing, purified or sanctified willing — just willing, no matter how timidly or hesitantly or even cynically.

Like the Prodigal Son, go home without knowing what will happen. Be willing to find out. And like the Prodigal Son, let yourself be wholeheartedly embraced.

Love does not require you to be perfect to claim you as its own.

What then, beautiful humanity, are we waiting for?
