Episode 1: Not-So-Typical-Disclaimer

[0:23] Not-So-Typical Disclaimer

I’m Demian Yumei of and welcome to my podcast!

Before we start, there’s a few things I’d to address. First, the heart of the healing journey is a kind of disclaimer in itself. A disclaimer is a denial, disavowal or a disowning.

So, in the true meaning of the word ,and to give you an idea of what this podcast will be about, let me share my healing journey disclaimer:

  1. Denial: I deny the past the power to define who I am. I acknowledge its impact, but I author my own life.
  2. Disavowal: I disavow the lie that I’m responsible for someone else’s abuse of me.
  3. Disowning: I disown and repudiate the entitlement of all others to tell me what to think or feel or how to live, or allow them to recreate my reality in any way to fit their agenda.

Keeping the Dream is about the healing journey and it’s about reclaiming our strength, our dreams and our voice.

Please be warned that if you contemplate these ideas on your healing journey, sit with them while, try them on for size and act on them, you may notice a growing sense of empowerment, greater health, sense of peace and well-being.

And that is the goal of our journey together.

[1:56] Regular Disclaimer

So, to cover a few regular disclaimer stuff, let me say that I am not a lawyer or therapist or counselor. Nothing in this podcast should be construed as legal or psychological advice. As always, you are responsible for your path, the decisions you make and their results.

[2:16] Triggers

I am a survivor of incest and I will be sharing my experiences as a survivor. I talk about abuse and the dynamics surrounding it in this podcast and in my writings and music. This often involves discussions about personal relationships or addiction, mental illness and other forms of trauma. You may find this triggering.

Please practice self-care and create a strong support network. Have numbers and names of services and resources at easy access. You don’t always think so clearly when you’re going through a particularly difficult time.

I also strongly suggest if you’re going to do in-depth work, please don’t go it alone. Let yourself have the support and guidance of a trained practitioner or skilled healer.

[3:07] Privacy

And one more thing.

This podcast is a way for me to tell my story. What I share is true to the best of my memory and knowledge.

Part of my story will involve my family of origin and other relationships. Out of respect for privacy, I’ve changed the names and identifying details as much as possible.

I accept that those who became a part of my father’s life after he left my family may see him differently. I’m not here to challenge that. But neither will I silence myself in deference to that possibility. Whatever he was to others, doesn’t change what he was to me or to my siblings or mother. And that is my truth.

For any pain this may cause others, I am sorry. It’s not my intent to hurt anyone, especially the innocent.

[4:06] Closing

I am so glad that you’re here and I am truly looking forward to walking this journey with you. Join me in the next episode where we take a look at what Keeping the Dream is and how the study of covert abuse is a part it.

Please subscribe so we can continue this walk together and invite someone you care about to join us.

Until then, stay true to your journey, to the light in your heart, to who you are and who you are becoming, always.
